Having written interiors features for House Beautiful, Inspirations, Country Homes & Interiors and Bella, Linda first appeared on our screens in 1994 with an appearance on BBC's Home Front. The following year she made the pilot programme of Changing Rooms and the rest is history. Changing Rooms was a phenomenal success, moving from BBC2 to BBC1, with ten million viewers, and ending after its twelfth series.
In 1999 Linda began co-presenting House Invaders for daytime BBC1. In 2004, she was the sole presenter on ITV’s ‘Building the Dream’ that ran for a 13 week series. She was co-presenter on ‘Planet Christmas’ a three part special broadcast on BBC2 during winter 2001. She has also appeared on ‘Good Morning’ with Anne and Nick, ‘The Antiques Show’, ‘Children in Need’, ‘GMTV’, and ‘Through the Keyhole’. In 2007, Linda took part in the children’s programme ‘Hider in the House’ as the hidden celebrity. She came joint first with Lee Ryan on a celebrity edition of ‘Come Dine with Me’ in 2008 and joined the design team of ‘60 Minute Makeover’ in 2009.
Many remember Linda’s stint in the Australian Jungle when she became the last female left on the second series of the hugely successful ITV1 reality show, ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’.
Although she remains a popular TV presenter, Linda also writes a regular interiors column for the Telegraph Saturday Magazine, the weekend Daily Express magazine and also Your Home and has contributed to BBC Good Homes magazine. She has written several books including all three of the ‘Changing Rooms’ books and ‘Trade Secrets’, a compilation of her Saturday Telegraph features. Her most recent book, ‘Wall to Wall’ is also amongst her best sellers and was translated into many different languages. Her overall global book sales exceeding £2million. In addition to this, Linda has recently been giving seminars at the Autumn Trade Fair in Birmingham on future trends in design and has been promoting her own mail order business, ‘Really Linda Barker’ that she launched in 2003.
Readers of House Beautiful magazine recently overwhelmingly voted Linda as ‘Designer of the Year’. She has also been awarded ‘TV Personality of the Year’ by your Home magazine, Yorkshire Woman of the Year and the ‘Makeover Maestro’ by Radio Times readers. She was also a subject of ‘This Is Your Life’ in 2002.
